The spanish conquest
In 1519 Hernando Cortéz invaded Tenochitlan, and waged war on the Aztec, and were acclaimed victorious on August 13, 1521. Cortéz came from Cuba with 100 men, hoping to find land. Once he landed in Mexico, he told his men to come with him, but they wouldn't. So of course being the crazy man that he was, he sunk his own ships to force his men to come with him! With his men he started the long walk to Tenochitlan. After a couple years and a few alliances he arrived. He was greeted warmly by the Aztec and were given a place to stay. They were given food, but less and less everyday. One day an Aztec woman told him that the Aztec were planning to ambush them. The Aztec were trying to make them weak so when they fought them it would be easier by giving them less food. Cortéz quickly put together a plan, and captured the ruler of the Aztec inside of his own house. The Aztecs put together a few retaliations but most of the Spanish survived, and were able to escape from Tenochitlan under the cover of the night. In a couple of years they had grouped back together, and were ready for a second attack on Tenochitlan. This would be their victory run. Cortéz took Tenochitlan and made the surviving Aztec destroy their own temples in which they worshiped their sacred gods, and over them build a great church in which they were to now worship God.
